Ok, so waiting in line for 2 hours on Tuesday night Granville Street @ Vancouver Film Festival to hopefully find a pair of rush tickets from the sold out screening of “The September Issue”…All I can say is there was some bitchy “fashionistas”(or at least they think they are) with elbows and nasty attitudes who were also waiting in line, but trying to sneak their way into the front to get tickets to the movie, which EITHER WAY is coming out in public theatres in about a week or so… like really? That necessary?  I thought I would mention this before I speak anything about the movie just to describe how crazy this industry really is, I mean you really have to have balls and a tough attitude to get by these feisty animals we call bitches.

Anyways lets talk about the movie….

The September Issue, a documentary featuring the editor of the greatest magazine of all time: American Vogue (Anna Wintour) an eye into the world of Vogue and how it is seen through Anna’s eyes. Every year revolves around the September issue of Vogue. Fall is the most important time of year for fashion, layers, furs, shawls, boots, accessories…etc there is just so much to fulfill, and that is what makes the issue so thick and beautiful. All of these decisions are up to Anna. Her opinion matters, and she isn’t afraid to give it. Behind the scenes watching Anna’s vicious comments on what she likes and dislikes was very entertaining, but she has a good eye for fashion and it’s changes. She has the power to change the world’s style, fashion sense and what people will wear. The only person who is able to stand up to Anna’s powerful opinions is Grace Coddington; a former model turned Creative Director. Anna and Grace both started working at Vogue at the same time 20 years ago, however Grace is a romantic dreamer and has a hard time letting go of the past, while Anna looks at what is going to be in and what’s out. Together, they complete each other as business partners and companions. But Anna is the main business woman and in this industry that’s what it has all turned into. Business.

This movie is great to see if you have any interest for fashion. To see the great minds of many talented designers, photographers and the queen of them all in work mode is truly something fascinating. The work that goes into that magazine is indulging and inspiring for me to watch and hopefully someday, be involved myself. Waiting in line with those bitchy wannabe fashionistas elbowing me for tickets to see this movie, and then seeing this movie reminded me of how tough one has to be in this industry. It is full of phony people who think they know better.

Watch out. It’s a zoo out there.
